Teens 15+ and adults
Control the exchange. Dictate the outcome.
Striking, grappling and anti-grappling as one complete system. MMX joins our Muay Thai striking to our hybrid No-Gi grappling — and then teaches the part almost nobody teaches: the transitions between them.
What it is
The honest version.
- A complete MMA skill set, even starting from zero
- Anti-grappling — the connector between striking and the ground
- Youth and adult streams run separately
What MMX is
A complete system, not a bit of everything.
MMX is our Mixed Martial Arts X-Training programme: the Muay Thai striking system and the hybrid No-Gi grappling system — Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Sambo and Wrestling — trained as one thing, where each piece supports the other. Art Of 8 is a Muay Thai first academy, so the striking structure goes in before the full complexity of MMA is layered on top. Membership requires attendance in both striking and grappling classes, and that is not negotiable: a complete skill set cannot be built from one side of the game.
- Muay Thai striking — footwork, stance, range control, clinch basics, coached pad work
- Hybrid grappling — takedown chains and defence, top control, passing, guard, finishes
- Attendance in both striking and grappling classes is required
- The 8–14 stream runs separately from teens and adults
What makes MMX different
Anti-grappling. The connector.
Most programmes teach striking and grappling as separate worlds. MMX bridges them with anti-grappling — the skills that stop grappling from shutting down your striking, and stop striking from being your only option. In MMA, being able to punch is not enough and being able to grapple is not enough. The difference is knowing how to prevent, manage and reverse the transition.
- Staying on your feet when someone wants to take you down
- Breaking clinches, winning hand-fighting, and resetting to striking
- Defending takedowns without losing balance or giving up dominant grips
- Standing back up safely if you do hit the ground
- Turning defence into counters — sprawl to control, whizzer to angle, frame to escape
Who it suits
Two rooms, one athlete.
MMX suits the person who does not want to choose. It also suits someone who already has one side of it — a striker who wants to become hard to take down, or a grappler who wants to become dangerous on the feet — and wants the gap closed honestly. You do not have to compete. Most of our MMX members train for their own development, for self-defence and for the athletic standard of it, and never enter anything.
- A complete MMA skill set, even if you are starting from zero
- Striking and grappling that actually connect, through the transitions
- Confidence under pressure, built rather than claimed
- A team that pushes you while keeping the room respectful
- The Mixed Martial Arts X-Training plan covers Muay Thai, No-Gi Grappling and strength and conditioning
Your first session
You start on your feet.
A first MMX session starts standing. Muay Thai comes first here, so a coach will take you through stance, guard and how you move before anything goes to the ground. Comfortable shorts and a t-shirt are all you need. MMA sparring sits at a higher bar than anything else we run and is cleared by coaches over months, so it is not something you will meet on your first day.
- Comfortable shorts and a t-shirt
- Stance and movement before anything goes to the ground
- No sparring on day one; MMA rounds are cleared by coaches over months
- Booking takes about a minute and nothing is signed afterwards
