Youth and adults
Take down. Control. Submit.
Control the position, control the pace, control the outcome. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Art Of 8 is one curriculum, taught in the gi and without it — practical, progressive, and built so you are never collecting random techniques.
What it is
The honest version.
- A comprehensive system, not a collection of techniques
- Gi and No-Gi classes, for youth from age four and for adults
- A and B streams, so beginners are never thrown in
What makes it different
A system, not a technique list.
Jiu Jitsu can feel chaotic when it is taught without structure. Ours is the opposite: fundamentals first, repeatable solutions, and skills you can apply the same week you learn them. You are taught to move through each phase with purpose — standing, takedown, control, advancement, finish, with clear escapes and resets when you are the one defending.
- Win and maintain dominant positions
- Escape bad positions under pressure
- Chain takedowns into control and submissions
- Transition smoothly through scrambles
- Grapple effectively with the gi and without it
Gi and No-Gi
In the gi, and without it.
Gi classes train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with the grips the jacket allows. Our No-Gi classes blend it with Wrestling and Sambo, because each brings something the others do not — and No-Gi is also the grappling taught in our MMX classes. Together they make a grappler who can adapt to any opponent and any rule set, which is the point.
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — leverage, positional control, submissions, guard work, efficient escapes
- Wrestling — takedowns, clinch control, mat returns, top pressure, pace management
- Sambo — dynamic entries, unconventional angles, leg attacks, fast transitions
- 1,000 square feet of impact-absorbing mat, separate from the striking floor
What you'll train
Every phase, in order.
The work is organised by phase rather than by technique, so you always know which problem you are solving. Leg attacks are introduced progressively and experience-dependent, because there is a right time to meet them and it is not week one.
- Standing, clinch and takedowns — hand-fighting, singles, doubles, body locks, trips, sprawls
- Top control and guard passing — pinning, pressure, clearing legs, advancing with patience
- Escapes and defensive fundamentals — side control, mount, back control, re-guarding
- Guard, sweeps and get-ups — frames, hip movement, off-balancing, wrestling-informed stand-ups
- Submissions and finishing sequences — high-percentage chokes and joint locks, in simple chains
Who trains it
Youth from four. Adults from fifteen.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is delivered in an age-appropriate curriculum, with Gi and No-Gi classes in both the youth and adult streams. For children it is one of the best ways to build real confidence through real skill — control, discipline, balance and problem-solving, in a room where coaching and safety come first. MMX, our Mixed Martial Arts X-Training programme, trains the No-Gi side alongside the striking that makes it work.
- Classes for ages 4–7, 8–14, and teens and adults 15+
- Gi and No-Gi classes in both the youth and adult streams; MMX classes teach No-Gi
- A coach tells you which stream to start in — partners are chosen, and rounds are watched
- No wrestling background and no strength requirement
- Competition is a pathway you can be invited into, never an expectation
Your first session
Shorts, a t-shirt, and a coach.
Comfortable shorts and a t-shirt are enough for a first visit. A coach takes you through it, and your first session is movement on the floor — one or two positions and how to get out of them — rather than a live round. You will work with people who were beginners themselves not long ago, and they remember it. Nothing is put in front of you to sign at the end.
- Comfortable shorts and a t-shirt on the first visit
- Drilling and positional work before any live round
- The session is coached start to finish
- Booking takes about a minute and confirms straight away
First session is free.
